Fishing Dan is a free reference site. We don't ask you to make an account, we don't sell anything, and we collect as little as possible. This page explains, in plain terms, the small amount of data the site touches and what we do with it.
Who we are
Fishing Dan is operated by DT Global Ventures Ltd, the data controller for any personal data described here.
What we collect, and why
- If you email us or use the contact form: your name, email and message, so we can read it and reply. The form sends your message to us by email; we don't store it in a database or use it for marketing.
- If you give us your email to unlock the cheat sheet (or to hear about new waters): your email address. We use it to send you the cheat sheet and to email you when a new place to fish is added, and nothing else. Your browser also stores a small flag locally so it remembers the cheat sheet is unlocked; that flag stays on your device and is not sent to us.
- Usage measurement: a cookieless, privacy-friendly analytics tool to see roughly how many people visit and which pages are read. It does not set cookies, track you across other sites, or identify you.
- Server logs: like any website, our host records standard technical information to keep the site running and secure.
The legal basis
We rely on your consent for the optional email updates, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing a working website and replying to messages you send us.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your data. We use a small number of service providers to run the site (hosting, analytics, and the service that delivers contact-form messages to us). They process data only to provide that service.
How long we keep it
Contact messages: as long as needed to deal with your message and a reasonable period after. Email-update addresses: until you ask us to remove yours. Analytics: aggregate only, with no personal profile retained.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to its use, or to withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@fishingdan.com and we'll sort it. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

We use no tracking cookies. The full position is on the cookies page.
